new camera

Wish I could show you a picture of my new Canon power shot. The old camera died. It will take me a few days to figure out how to use it. The joy of electronics for seniors.

Bargaining power

I can hardly believe that a grandchild would want to spend a day at Nana's house. I used that for bargainig power last night..." If you cooperate and get your pajamas on you can come to Nana's house tomorrow." Boy, did the clothes fly off in a hurry.

Knarled fingers

Emmeline went along to Sunday School with Papa and me. Papa was having trouble fastening her seat belt. "You're doing great, Papa"

Bottom's up

Babysat 2 little girls whilst their parents painted their living room. The picture in my mind's eye is of Emmeline's face in the ice cream bowl licking out the "juice". Too bad my camera died.

small pleasures

What fun to get a coffee at Tim's and go to the playground and sip coffee...just like normal people.

E: "Mom can I help you fill the van with gas? " Then a deep sigh..."too little".
E: "That's not my Daddy, he has jeans on."

She loves my green sparkle hat.

Today I heard a robin and a lawnmower...and Colin turned on their sprinkler system. What next? This is fun

Desparate measures

Boredom has driven Bob to apply for a job at Wal-Mart.

Great taste no pain

I am being helped by an eating plan that I wish I had been told about LONG AGO. It's been a week of being challenged by new ventures...puppy, diet

The camera batteries are dead...hence no pictures.

I am slowly learning Spanish. Thanks, Dora the Explorer!

Let sleeping dogs lie

Rosie sleeps like a baby when I wrap her in a blanket and let her snuggle into my pillow. How much like a human baby is that?
Rosie took her first trip around the block on a leash.

Rosie is making herself at home

Need to introduce Rosie to grass. She prefers carpet at this point. Not good!!

progressive lenses

Rosie has to cower under the table cuz I keep tripping over her. We also play a game of "who is faster?"--- Me closing the patio door or the little dog racing back into the house before the door shuts.

Puppy No Name

Today the new puppy came to join us. She is cute and lively and I'll have my hands full. Have I forgotten how to train a baby? We'll see.

Mystery girl

Who set the radio alarms to go off in the middle of the night?
Who put Papa's wallet in Nana's handbag?
" I want to stay at Nana's forever" (Emmeline)

And satin sandals and say we've no money for butter

Family dinner. "Eat your stew before you get an ice cream treat."
"but I wan a iceem cone"
"I shall sit down on the pavement when I am tired and gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells, and run my stick along the public railings and make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain and pick the flowers in other people's gardens and learn to spit."
"Maybe I ought to praactise a little now so people who know me are not too shocked and surprised when suddenly I am old and start to wear purple."

And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves

"I need wisdom because...

The older I grow the less time I have to correct my mistakes.

So, cultivate in me the wisdom of patience and good judgment;

Increase my love; enlarge my vision,

expand my courage and faith; strenghten my hope

and deepen my resolve to live each day in grace." AMEN

With a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me

"I need wisdom because...I face more upheaval and diminishing these days. - Funerals, retirement, down-sizing. My body fails me oftener than before; Please help me to accept this season, adjust my pace and realign my expectations; Resist the impulse in me to slacken off into triviality. Sustain in me pursuit of life with lively mind and spirit."
You can be a ballerina even if your shoes are too big and they belong to your big sister.

When I am old I shall wear purple

"I need wisdom because...My children are growing older and facing new issues; Sometimes they ask my advice; always they are waiting for my example. I need wisdom because...I am not that smart. I have more wisdom than I know but often I don't know when to hold my counsel and when or how to share it."
When I am young I shall be a ballerina.

My favorite color is purple

"I need wisdom because...The older I grow the less certain I am of some things and more convinced I am of others. Sometimes, honestly I seem to have more questions now. Give me the courage to set aside yesterday's black certainties for the nuanced siver-gray of maturity."

Oh how I love these little darlins.

Relief is a wonderful emotion

"I need wisdom because...Younger people see the world in new ways. All around me the culture is undermining my traditions, And I resent that. I need discernment to see beyond familiar opinions, Insight to sort out truth from error and distortion."

Monday, March 8, 2010

No more crying over spilled milk

"I need wisdom because... Instead of searching me out, people more often pass me by. Remind me that You have not by-passed me; that I am hidden in the hollow of Your care, that I don't have to prove myself, and that You still have purposes for me. Make me ambitious for a world that will never pass away."

bring on the Springtime

"Lord to my heart bring back the springtime."
"Jesus, I read that you grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and others; that's how I want to grow. I read that in Jesus, wisdom and knowledge are hidden like treasure, so help me search You out, discover your mother-lode of grace and truth, ponder your perspective and pursue your way; Keep me learning You. Keep me teachable, humble eager, a life-long learner, suspicious of arrogance that assumes I know it all."

Banana Muffins with chocolate chips

"Lord I'm growing older- somehow it comes without even trying-But as I grow older, I also need to grow wiser- and that doesn't happen automatically."

Brave crocuses

Oh little one. Are you sure you want to do this? It's only March 05

gratitude from a granddaughter

Jillian's favorite color is pink. She phoned to say thankyou for her birthday gift. Gratitude is a way of life that should be a part of our fiber when older. "We" have so much to be thankful for.

Grumpy old people

Sometimes I am embarrassed with us older guys. Does it mean seniors have license to be more rude, impatient and pushy when standing in line? Does having come thru the great depression mean we can't give a mother an inch to care for her kids? We have lots of room in Canada. Please allow people to use the space. And most of us have lots more time than a young mother.

I did something that took courage...made a doctor appointment.

Parting with an old buddy

Goodbye to an old girl. Sorry to see her go.
